I’m Dead Inside

A phrase that shows that there’s something inside of you that is broken and it’s beyond repair.

When I’m watching Peaky Blinders, there’s this saying that the main character, Tommy Shelby has changed. He’s not the same person after he returns from France, participating in WWI. He experienced a near-death situation that changes him entirely. Tommy said that “nobody comes back from France”, saying that everyone has come back only to become a different person. The war has killed something inside Tommy. Even though Tommy is well and alive, there’s something inside of him that is dead.

Some people have a part of them that is dead. For Atheists, it’s their faith in God. Some have a shitty household and for them, “family” holds no value at all. One can experience so much betrayal in their life and decided to not trust love anymore. Several adults might have killed their childhood dream cause they have to work to make ends meet. Some may not be as passionate as they used to about what they have been doing over the past few years.

The part of you that is dead doesn’t make you any less of a human being. On the contrary, it shapes you into who you become right now. It’s good if you can resurrect what was once lost, but it’s also okay to live alongside that dead part and carry them for the rest of your life.

So… is there a part of you that is dead?
