It has been a crazy year my friend, o’ dear 27. A lot has happened, and I mean A LOOOT. Let’s recap together, shall we?

Early this year, you suffered from a “mini-depression”. It might not even categorized as depression. One thing is for sure, is that you got hit with a news that shook you up. First time you tried consulting with a psychiatrist. You got to learn yourself — and most importantly you learned that sometimes… you have to let go of your habit of overthinking things.

Oh! And you also encouraged yourself to go on a blind date. Good for you! I know it’s a hard thing to do, so you should be proud of what you just did. Well… even though it didn’t ended up well 😅 But hey… least you tried, am I right?

This year, you were also grinding your ass off — trying to get a job overseas. Remember all that after-hours Leetcode? The updated CV? Cold message in LinkedIn? Waking up in the morning, do the interviews, do the coding test, and then go to the office? All those weekends at the cafe, doing coding challenges. Fun times…? I guess not. But it surely is memorable.

Booked Nicole Tour in Jakarta. Excited to attend your first-ever live concert. Unfortunately, you can’t come 🥲 You do have a bunch of videos sent by your cousin though. Haven’t watched it cause of the annoying sound of her singing in the background *lol.

Oh! You also learned how to drive. Manual car, 8 classes. Pretty sure you’ve forgotten how to park and how to drive on an inclined plane. But hey… at least you now know the basics.

You went on the trip to Karimunjawa. Finally… after years of curiosity. The trip itself is exhausting. Eight hours of bus commute + 2 hours of sea ferry, remember that? But the experiences themselves are quite pleasant. You got nice accommodation. An okay snorkeling. Funny motorbike incident 🤣 Took a picture with sharks. And most importantly, you get to experience it with your bros… for the last time… at least for now.

Finally… a major change happened to your life. You move to Japan for work. Starting in May, you got confirmation that you got accepted at one of the biggest e-commerce companies in Japan. You applied for a working visa, you updated your passport. You renewed all your licenses. Then, you have to say goodbye to your family and friends.

You arrived in Japan in August, and there are still loads of things you need to do. You did your registration in the ward office, got your SIM card, and opened a bank account, all in one day 😫 Exhausting. Even then, you still have to survey apartments with your agent in the same week.

After careful consideration, you chose 板橋区 area for your apartment. Looking at it now, it feels like it’s a good choice since the deal is good (no key money, no deposit money) — and the neighborhood is quite equipped with lots of restaurants, salons, and supermarkets. Then you have to buy some furniture to fill your apartment with. You went to IKEA and ニトリ to look around.

Even then, you’re still not “settled” yet in a sense, cause there are still things that you need to do. First day at the company, apartment signing sessions, sorting out your packages from Indonesia sent by Yamato, buy clothes to support cold seasons, set up your account to pay for gas, electricity, and water, and purchase appliances like washing machine, fridge, microwave, trash bin, etc.

I don’t want to get into detail, but the bottom line is… it’s HELLA hectic man! All those six months have led you up to this point, a man living in Japan.

To recap 27, it’s the busiest you’ve ever been. You grind and “quest-ing”. Did all those interviews while still working full-time. Preparing your relocation. Fill up the necessities before you depart. Planning the “goodbyes” for families and friends. Relocated to Japan. Put together all the things in place for living in Japan. Week after week is just task, and task, and task, nonstop.

But today, you can finally say in confidence, that you’re finally settling down. All the to-dos have finished, and the storm has passed. Coincidentally, it’s also the “28” day today. Today is marked not only as a new page that you’re going to write in but also as a totally new book. So, let’s celebrate this occasion, of the launching of a new book, that is… 28.

Cheers 🍻
